Pre-war years
Dodge D11 Luxury Liner 4-Door Sedan 1939
To fit better in the Chrysler Corporation lineup, alongside low-priced Plymouth and medium-priced DeSoto, Dodge’s lineup for early 1930 was trimmed down to a core group of two lines and thirteen models (from three lines and nineteen models just over a year previous). Prices started out just above DeSoto but were somewhat less than top-of-the-line Chrysler, in a small-scale recreation of General Motors’ “step-up” marketing concept. (DeSoto and Dodge would swap places in the market for the 1933 model year, Dodge dropping down between Plymouth and DeSoto.)

In the initial two years of production, Cadillac offered no options for the Allanté except for the interior and body color. Like the Cimarron of a few years earlier, the Allanté was introduced with an engine which was below the expectations of its target market. The 170 horsepower (130 kW) HT-4100 engine was insufficient against more powerful competition. This introductory platform turned off many potential customers, who considered the vehicle to be underpowered for its $55,000 price tag, causing them to conclude that Cadillac was not genuinely committed to building a performance car. In 1989 the powertrain was improved with the 4.5 L engine producing 200 horsepower (150 kW). Finally, in 1993 the powertrain was again upgraded to respectable performance with the 4.6 L Northstar V8 producing 290 horsepower (220 kW). This turned out to be the final year of production, as Allanté sales never reached the volume which Cadillac hoped for.

Plattner Auto Group News :GM had recurring quality problems with the latter two deficiencies in a variety of internal parts across multiple engine and transmission lines throughout its mid-’70s-to-mid-’80s decade, so these problems certainly would not have been out of place in Olds 350 diesels. In addition, the fuel system did not have an effective water separating system, and neither the buyers nor the dealer service staff were adequately informed about the products and procedures necessary for the proper maintenance of the engine.

Dodge Brothers emerged as a leading builder of light trucks. They also entered into an agreement whereby they marketed trucks built by Graham Brothers of Evansville, Indiana. The three Graham brothers would later produce Graham-Paige and Graham automobiles.
Stagnation in development was becoming apparent, however, and the public responded by dropping Dodge Brothers to fifth place in the industry by 1925. That year, the Dodge Brothers company was sold by the widows to the well-known investment group Dillon, Read & Co. for no less than US$146 million (at the time, the largest cash transaction in history).

The Monte Carlo, discontinued in 2007, is said to be replaced by the Camaro, also a coupe. At the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, the production version of the Chevrolet Spark was displayed under the nameplate of Spark. General Motors announced that the Spark, along with the Chevrolet Orlando, would go into production in the US. The Orlando will be a successor to the HHR . Along with the Spark and Orlando, General Motors will introduce two more models: the plug-in hybrid 2011 Chevrolet Volt; and the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, successor to the Cobalt. Chevrolet is starting a second generation Aveo which will make make release summer of 2010.

Plattner Auto Group Home :D illon, Read & Co. offered non-voting stock on the market in the new Dodge Brothers, Inc., firm, and along with the sale of bonds was able to raise $160 million, reaping a $14 million (net) profit. All voting stock was retained by Dillon, Read. Frederick Haynes remained as company head until E.G. Wilmer was named board chairman in November, 1926. Wilmer was a banker with no auto experience and Haynes remained as president. Changes to the car, save for superficial things like trim levels and colors, remained minimal until 1927, when the new Senior six-cylinder line was introduced. The former four-cylinder line was kept on, but renamed the Fast Four line until it was dropped in favor of two lighter six-cylinder models (the Standard Six and Victory Six) for 1928.

The company has long worked on alternative-technology vehicles, and has recently led the industry with ethanol burning flexible-fuel vehicles that can run on either E85 (ethanol) or gasoline. The company was the first to use turbochargers and was an early proponent of V6 engines in the 1960s, but quickly lost interest as the muscle car race took hold.
They demonstrated gas turbine vehicles powered by kerosene, an area of interest throughout the industry, but abandoned the alternative engine configuration in view of the 1973 oil crisis. In the 1970s and 1980s, GM pushed the benefits of diesel engines and cylinder deactivation technologies with disastrous results due to poor durability in the Oldsmobile diesels and drivability issues in the Cadillac V8-6-4 variable cylinder engines. In 1987, GM, in conjunction with AeroVironment, built the Sunraycer, which won the inaugural World Solar Challenge and was a showcase of advanced technology. Much of the technology from Sunraycer found its way into the Impact prototype electric vehicle (also built by Aerovironment) and was the predecessor to the General Motors EV1.

Avoid Auto Repair Fraud

Let’s face it. Not all mechanics are honest. Some car owners have had the unfortunate experience of being ripped off. This especially happens when your vehicle happens to be an older model needing repairs. The mechanic can use excuses like “Well, it ain’t easy to do” or “You know or the repair you asked for didn’t include that.” When you hear that, you have a right to be nervous and the price tag could easily add up. Instead of dealing the runaround and over priced estimates you could do better by selling your used car. Most of us can’t get a family recommendation or a referral to protect us from being overcharged.

If you want to avoid being ripped off you had have to check the qualifications and certifications of the mechanic and the repair shop. Before doing that, you would want to find out if your state has any specific qualifications for car mechanics and if they are mandatory or merely voluntary. If you can determine they have qualifications you might want to check with the organization to verify that the mechanic’s qualifications and certificates are, in fact, valid.

If you decide to go to an auto mechanic for repairs it would make sense to check the local consumer agency to finds out if there are any complaints filed against the auto repair shop. Some take it a step further and check out the local forums on the internet to find information on the auto repair shop. You can’t always trust what you read, but it can give you an idea. This starts to get time-consuming but many go through this to avoid being robbed at the auto repair shop or by a mechanic they are considering using for the first time. But this is only the beginning.

Even if everything checks out, just because that particular auto repair shop has the proper qualifications does not make it honest and trustworthy. After you go through this preliminary background check, you’ll need to pick up the phone and give them a call.

Before you call, prepare a list of questions you want to ask. Besides the obvious question such as charge for labor (and parts if necessary) you’ll probably want to find out if you need to schedule an appointment and how long it would take to get one. Other inquiries may include whether or not they guarantee all the work they do. If there is a guarantee, what exactly is covered?

Of course, if you want the best deal, you’re probably thinking it makes sense to get a second opinion. Not just a second opinion – but a second third, fourth and fifth opinion if you can. Take your list of questions to all of the auto repair shops you’ve identified and compare their answers. Make sure you take note of how you’re being treated. Some shops are not forthcoming with answers to your questions which is a sure sign that they’re trying to hide something.

From the mechanic’s personality to whether the shop is clean is important and is an indication of what you can expect in the way of service. Are you being overcharged for parts that you might need? Are you sure you’ll even need them? You’ll need to do your research beforehand and that’ll take time.

Instead of going through all above and more, you might find that your used vehicle might fetch a decent sum on the open market when compared to an auto mechanic’s estimate. Also it may prove to be far less complicated. Quick Cash Auto, a cash-for-car business, is constantly getting calls from car owners who would rather offload their vehicles for a fair price than deal with the high price of auto repairs. Quick Cash Auto also has mechanics on hand that can fix any problem your vehicle may have and, in effect, increase its worth. Depending on the extent of the damage, selling your vehicle, with repairs needed and all, may still be the better alternative.
